Pitcher and Basin Series
While the world slowed down this March, I was awarded a research scholarship from Illingworth Kerr Gallery. During that time I thought a lot about washing my hands- and how rituals can help calm and keep normalcy in times of stress.
Before we had running water, pitcher and basins were essential in the ritual of washing our hands. How does a largely obsolete object such as this function in this new context?
Although the forms are almost antique in nature, the ornament that covers them offers me as a maker a space to express feelings of anxiety and control. The push and pull between these two are constantly in flux in the work and reflect the state of mind in which they were created.
